A Bird's Life

It was the final day of our college spring break road trip to Florida and my friends dropped me off alongside a Georgia highway with just my backpack and my desire to experience the Earth.

That night, as dusk settled, I set up my tent Atop Huayna Picchu overlooking Machu Picchuon the outskirts of a farm near the lead-up to the Appalachian Trail. The following morning after I packed up my tent and started out on that journey, I saw a small sign with the name of the road where I had camped -- Redbird Lane.

When I meditated on the trail name I should choose for my journey, a cardinal darted by, and I knew then that was my sign. The RedBirD had risen, like a phoenix from the glowing embers of a still smoldering fire.

Still to this day, when I see a redbird flit across my path, I remember that day and the experience of life this living universe has instilled within me. I invite you to share that journey with me, not just in through this medium but through the experiences of life we have had and will continue to have together.
